Taken in Shinjuku Gyoen (park), Tokyo.
This is type of spider is commonly found in Japanese parks, woods, mountainsides, etc.
I have seen them grow to as big as 3-4 inches...maybe they can get bigger.
This one in the pic is about 2 inches.
So, about the photo.
I watched the spider free a fallen leaf from its web.
The web was completely destroyed as he finally cut the leaf away and sent it falling to the ground.
You can make out the spindle that he hangs from.
I took several shots of him tussling with the large leaf.
I felt after cropping that this was the best one.
I used a SMC Pentax 50mm F1.4 with the aperture wide open.
